Video Messaage from Russ Shewchuk:
Greetings:
Workers have always had a profound impact on communities across the country and around the world. Fighting for better working conditions, health and safety on the job, better wages and pension plans so they can retire with dignity.
Over the last year, workers and labour leaders across the country have stood up for what they believe in. Recently, we celebrated historic labour wins in Canada with the passing of three bills:
Bill C-50: Canadian Sustainable Jobs Act
Bill C-58: Federal Anti-Scab Legislation
Bill C-59: Investment Tax Credits (Clean Energy)
Labour Day has a rich history and one we should be proud of and proud to continue to work for and honour those who came before us. Those who fought for the 8-hour workday, vacation days, sick days, maternity and parental leave, the Canada Pension Plan, and more. For those who stood on the picket line to improve our collective agreements. I encourage our members to join a Labour Day parade or celebratory event in your area. To find out more, check with your Local District Labour Council or search here – https://canadianlabour.ca/events/labour-day-events-2024/
I would like to wish each and every one of you an enjoyable and safe Labour Day weekend. Take the time to enjoy your family and friends and to put aside the stresses of your everyday work life.
In solidarity,
Russ Shewchuk
