It is with the great sadness that on September 7th, 2022, we all learned of the passing of Canada’s longest-reigning Sovereign, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Canada’s history has long been tied to the Queen as we were one of many Commonwealth countries. Her Majesty’s tenure spanned over a remarkable 70 years as Queen. She spent those seventy years devoted to her life service, serving the Commonwealth and its people. For many Canadians, she is the only Sovereign that they have ever been alive to witness in their lives.
Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, had twenty-three Royal Tours and saw this great country from coast to coast to coast, witnessing our countries major achievements over the last seven decades. During this time, Canada was quickly developing into the great nation we call home. There was no doubt that she loved to visit Canada, a place where the Royal Family was always welcomed with open arms by Canadians far and wide.
She was a leader among leaders. Her wisdom, compassion, and devotion to public service and to serving the people of the Commonwealth will live on in all of us. We are all fortunate enough to have witnessed Her Majesty and the important role she played in the growth of our country; she will always remain an integral part of our country’s history.
It is never easy losing someone, and yesterday, all the Commonwealth people lost our Sovereign. The next few days and weeks, Canadians will join with citizens of the Commonwealth to mourn and pay tribute to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.
Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II will join her husband and partner, The late Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Phillip who passed away on April 9, 2021.
May the Queen rest in peace.
