IBEW Applauds the Appointment of Hassan Yussuff to the Senate
IBEW International Vice-President for the First District (Canada), Tom Reid, issued the following statement in response to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s announcement of today’s Senate appointments which includes the past President of the Canadian Labour Congress, Hassan Yussuff. “I applaud Prime Minister Trudeau’s appointment of Hassan Yussuff as a new Senator to fill a vacancy in Ontario. Hassan has dedicated his life to helping others and brings years of experience, leadership and dedication to fighting for workers in Canada and around the world.
There is no better time to appoint Hassan than right now. His leadership and drive to achieve better for our country will help continue to fight the global COVID-19 pandemic, take steps toward our recovery including the importance of good jobs, and build back a more resilient and inclusive Canada for everyone. Prime Minister Trudeau has stated that he wants labour at the table and today’s appointment of Hassan Yussuff to the Senate, shows that labour is a top priority in building back better.”
