October 18, 2021, Ottawa, ON – The Canada Grid initiative of The Transition Accelerator is pleased to announce that the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Canada has joined its steering committee as a supporting partner.
“The energy transition won’t happen without strong alliances between industry, civil society and labour. Having IBEW as an early member of our coalition is a win-win. Canada Grid will benefit from their experience and insights, and through our coalition IBEW will interface with provincial and state leaders, major financial institutions, technology manufacturers, professional services firms, and other entities committed to re-building our grid to meet Canada’s net-zero targets”, said Philip Duguay, Managing Director of Canada Grid.
“The North American power grid will undergo dramatic changes over the next generation. Becoming part of the Canada Grid coalition will help us further our mission. We represent over 65,000 workers across Canada, many of whom help build, maintain and operate the power grid. These workers have a stake in evolving their industry, and in ensuring rewarding careers for future generations of IBEW members”, said Thomas Reid, International Vice President, IBEW-Canada.
