Today, March 8, marks International Women’s Day providing an occasion to reflect on the progress we have made toward achieving fairness, equality and justice for women in Canada and across the globe. It is a time to be inspired by the change we have achieved together, and to renew our resolve to continue to work hard on the unfinished business of a truly equal society.
The Canadian Labour Congress is focused on three key labour priorities as part of their International Women’s Day Initiative, called the #DoneWaiting Campaign. This focuses on sending a clear message to our federal government that it’s time to move beyond talk and to achieve real results for women on pay equity, child care and violence and harassment. To support the campaign, we have ordered stickers created by the CLC which will be distributed to your Local Union upon request, at no cost to you, to share with Women’s Committees and Sisters across the IBEW. The stickers will help support this initiative and raise awareness of the accompanying website where activists can take digital actions on these three priorities.
Please share the stickers with the Women’s Committee in your Local Union, and share the campaign website with them (http://www.donewaiting.ca/), to make our government aware that we too, are #DoneWaiting.
For sticker requests, and if you are planning on organizing or participating in any events surrounding International Women’s Day, please send in any pictures or notice of the event to the First District Office.
