The National Electrical Trade Council (NETCO) founding Executive Director Carol MacLeod stepped down from her role, effective June 30, 2018. Carol was instrumental in the organization’s 2006 start-up and in building the industry funding model that has enabled NETCO to flourish. She has provided national leadership in promoting Red Seal standards and innovative training, and in establishing new green skills training and certification programs. Carol is the architect of NETCO’s widely acclaimed annual training conference. The NETCO Board would like to pay tribute to Carol for her diligence, advocacy and vision, and wishes her success in her future ventures.
Our next Executive Director, chosen by the NETCO Board through an open selection process conducted across Canada, is Melissa Young. Melissa has influenced the landscape for trades and apprenticeship in Canada in leadership roles such as Chair of the Canadian Council of Directors of Apprenticeship Communication & Promotion Committee (2009-2014) and Regional Coordinator of the Atlantic Apprenticeship Harmonization Project (2014-2016). Most recently she served as Assistant Director in the Apprenticeship and Occupational Certification branch of the Government of New Brunswick and on the Board of the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum. Before moving to government, Melissa was Executive Director of the Carpenters Training Centre of New Brunswick (2000-2009). She is past Chair of the New Brunswick Construction Safety Association. Melissa has built strong partnerships among government and industry stakeholders as well as organizations representing Indigenous people, women in trades, and newcomers to Canada.
Welcome Melissa!
